FIRST OF ALL, I WISH YOU & YOUR FAMILY A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS. I LOVE YOUR BASS PLAYING. YOU SEEM TO HAVE A KIND OF RELATIONSHIP WITH THE BASSES YOU PLAY. IS READING MUSIC LIKE RIDING A BIKE OR DO YOU HAVE TO KEEP IN PRACTICE TO STAY SHARP ONCE YOU LEARN HOW? YOU MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY. ANY HINTS OR BOOKS FOR A 50 YEAR OLD NON READING SO CALLED BASSIST?
Hi Bob-thanks for beocming friends on the MTD Enthusiasts site...Although I've been Playing since 66, I just joined about a month ago-in that time I've bought 3 MTDs ...a Z4 fretless, which I totally dig because Fretlesss is what I primarily play. Then I found a great deal on a Saratoga...but then I was able to find a great deal on a new Fretted Z4 , so I sold my Saratoga and got a new Cherry Fretted Z4 which should come this week. Anyway, I'm into all kinds of music...from Blues to Jazz to Cuban,(anyone who plays with Bill Frisell), Carribean and Pacific Rim-Shots, and just what you're servin up... and I really dig the groove that your playin with the pans on the 2-20 remix...very, very nice...an inspiration to me to play along. Anyway, thanks for helping Mike build all these great basses-I think I'll leave my Z4s stock for now-but will probably put some hotter barts on one soon-any reccomendations?? Thanks Bob??
Hi there Bob! Long time. I'm good and playing a lot. Right now I'm in Florida with my son for some vacation and buying some nice bass stuff from the Bass Central. I also got me a MTD ZX 5 bass from TPB that I'm picking up at the same time. This is my first MTD bass and the whole concept is kind of new to me since I'm a jazzbass man from "birth". So I joined this exclusive forum to get som insight in the world of MTD... that you're a big part of. How are you nowadays? Playing a lot of upright? Nice to hear from you! /Micke
I look forward to the day when I can own a Marilyn "Chambers" bass. I played my friend Hassan's fretted Marilyn and that sold me on it. The Tobias I am selling is chambered and sounds great but I long for the more acoustic sounds and want a piezo only bridge PU with no magnetics at all. It would really be an acoustic bass.
Hi Bob-I'm not an MTD owner YET...but hopefully will be within the next 2 weeks...I 've been playing since 66...fretless is my favorite medium...but I'm wanting to try an MTD after all I've read and the soundclips I've heard> I'm selling my J fretless and because I live in the "boonies of Iowa, I'm willing to buy an MTD without even trying one out(a fretless is so hard to find in a reasonable driving distance) with a little more info. I've been looking around this site and noted that you seem to be one of the most acomplished fretless players on this site as well as extremely familiar with Tobias /MTD basses.Would you mnd sharing a little of your knowledge about some of the best fretless MTD Basses in your opinion, that are suited for small hands, that has at least moderate tonal possibilities(I'm more with the tone and style of a "Pino Pallidino Slider"-think of his tone on Don Henly's "New York Minute" or "Sunset Grille" ...than a slapper),and I'd prefer a used one not to break the bank until I know what I'm doing. I've been told that the MTD Kingston 4 fretless is a great bass for what I describe...any opinions or other suggestions. Peace...Russ
