About Me:
My name is Joe Roberts, I'm a Philadelphia-area musician and performer, specializing in electric bass, Electric Upright Bass, Australian didgeridoo, and the Native American flute (among other things). I've been playing and recording in the greater Philadelphia area for nearly 20 years. I am also a card-carrying "Wine Geek" and wine consultant.

For the last several years, my main gig has been laying down the bottom (both bass and didgeridoo) for acclaimed original singer-songwriter Steve Liberace, live and in the studio.

Some career highlights with the Steve Liberace Band: Voted into the Top 5 Philly bands (out of hundreds of local submissions) in the 2006 regional "Have A Nice Gig" contest (sponsored by Saturn, Phily's Q102, & Bon Jovi); Performed at major Philadelphia venues including The Electric Factory, First Union Center / First Union Spectrum (for Philadelphia Sixers, Wings, & Phantoms sporting events), North Star Bar, and artist showcase Milkboy Coffee House; Music featured on Philadelphia's WXPN 88.5 FM.

Why I Joined MTD Bass Enthusiasts:
Because I started the thing! And I love MTD Basses. I wanted to create a place to foster the community of MTD Bass players, collectors, and retailers. Basically I wanted to make the website that I wish had existed when I was looking for high-end bass instruments and wanted to learn all I could about MTDs.

MTD 535 Reviewed in PremierGuitar.com

Hi all! Hope things are going well!

Just saw this linked on the MTDBass.com website - Looks like PremierGuitar.com reviewed an MTD 535-24 bass recently, and (surprise!) scored it a 5 out of 5 .

The review has sound clips to highlight the versatility of the test instrument, which was ash with a maple burl top. You can read the entire review here:

Thank you Joe for welcoming me to a place that feels like home. I've wanted to join and be active for a long time...just didn't seem to have the time before. For me playing MTD is the end of a long road over many years and I'd love to share whatever might be useful to others. I've consulted with Mike about possibly using alternative electronics over the past few years, and I'd be happy to share what little I might know about this. I believe I've seen forum input where owners have experimented with other Bartolini large pole soapbar pickups, and I'd really like to know more about this. Again, thanks and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Regards, Steve D
